About

Hello! I'm Helen Grymaloski.

I am a forever resident of Northwestern Ontario. I love where I live, my family and what I do. I have a passion for art, creating paintings with acrylics and watercolour. I love paddling, both kayaks and stand up paddle boards.

What's in a name? Why Blueberry Broad Diversions? Let me explain...

Our Purpose

When I decided to go into business for myself and become an entrepreneur I wasn't super clear on what that meant at first.

I knew I wanted to work mostly with women, not excluding men and children, itʼs just that I saw a need for activities that would help women find new ways of taking care of themselves, using art and paddling to enhance their self care. Learn new ways to put themselves first so that they could recharge and in turn have more to give back. The old adage of putting the oxygen mask on yourself first so you are able to help others.

I have been on my own self care journey for many years. Being a natural caregiver most of my life, I have been at the point of over doing it and learnt first hand what that can do to your own health and well being when you do too much. I had to hit the wall a few times before I started to put myself first and it still takes effort. Iʼm getting better, but I am not done learning either.

At one point, I was told that I needed to back off on the caregiving. I was over doing for others and not allowing them to take more control of their own care. I needed to take better care of myself, so that I could continue to support others.

A counsellor recommended that I find something that was just for me. I started with kayaking, which I had wanted to do for a long time but had been putting off and in many ways paddling saved my sanity. I was also introduced to an art group and got back into creating, starting with watercolors and acrylics. I found my passions. Donʼt get me wrong, I didn't necessarily do it everyday, I stopped and started. Whatʼs so wonderful about finding that passion is that I could keep going back to it and it never got angry when I was away too long. Every time I reconnect with it, the excitement, relaxation and joy are immeasurable.

I believe my Purpose is to guide and help women especially:

  • uncover their creativity
  • find their passion
  • step out of the box
  • check things off their bucket list, donʼt wait until you retire
  • stop putting things off
  • teach them where to start
  • find balance
  • gain confidence
  • realize their potential
  • erase old beliefs (Iʼm not creative or an artist), I canʼt do that
  • release self judgement
  • find ways to relax, laugh, play, recharge
  • learn new ways to have fun, rejuvenate, explore and create
  • put themselves first
  • find alternative ideas for self care
  • take time out for themselves
  • make time for themselves

My purpose is not to make you into a Picaso or an extreme paddler.

Ready to take some time for yourself?

I need to confess that I am not your typical Teacher. Truthfully it took me a very long time to be able to call myself a teacher. I donʼt have one teaching certificate. I wonʼt give you many technical terms, theory or even every technique. Partly because I canʼt remember the terms or names and you donʼt need them to start.

What I will give you is a glimpse of my passion. Plus:

  • enough step by step instructions that you will be able to create a painting
  • lots of tools (like clip art and stencils) You donʼt need to know how to do it all
  • a fun safe place to play
  • no judgement
  • compassion and understanding
  • patience and encouragement
  • choices
  • ability to explore different art and possibly find what excites you
